2019 Top 10 federal universities in Nigeria

  Before Nigeria got her independence the percentage of educated Nigerians was very low due to the high cost of fees  but now Nigeria government and other organs have been able to provide federal universities that would be affordable for her citizens, today we will  be looking at the 10 top federal university in Nigeria.  

1. UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN 

 University of Ibadan

The University of  Ibadan(UI) is stated to be  the oldest university in Nigeria it was established in 1948 and   it was first known as Yaba High College before it was later metamorphosed into a university making Sir Tafawa  Balewa(1st prime minister of Nigeria)  the 1st chancellor and  Kenneth Dike as the VC of the school. The University of Ibadan is not only known for its oldness but it is also known for its qualitative education  and it is also ranked among the top universities  in Nigeria. 

2. UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS 
University of Lagos

 The University of Lagos popularly known as UNILAG was founded  in 1962, it is located  at  the University Road Akoka, Yaba Lagos State in Nigeria. The University of  Lagos is the most populous school in Nigeria and has for over 5 decades provided good and research-oriented education to her students, with her great erudition the school has also produced notable alumni that is popularly known  in Nigeria, people like Yemi Osinbajo (vice president  of Nigeria), Wale Adenuga (film producer), Funke Akindele (actress), Genevieve Nnaji (actress) and the most popular blogger in Nigeria Linda  Ikeji. 

3.AHDMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY   
Ahdmadu Bello University

Ahdmadu  Bello University,  Zaria (ABU) is a federal university established in 1962, the creation of the school  started  from the School of Arabic studies in Kano which was later upgraded by the Northern region to the University of Northern  Nigeria in 1961 through the recommendation of  the Ashby Commission. 

4. UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA 
University of Nigeria


  The University of Nigeria, Nsukka   popularly known as UNN is located  at the eastern region of Nigeria (Enugu) the university was propagated  on the 19th of May but was opened  on the 7th of October 1960 by princess Alexandra of Kent and her 1st vice chancellor  was Dr George Marion Johnson. The UNN has approximately  40000 students and it is the 1st Indigenous and autonomous university in Nigeria. 

5. OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY 
Obafemi Awolowo University

  Obafemi Awolowo university was established in 1961 it  is popularly known as OAU, the school is located at Ile Ife  in Osun  State the university has the population of over 35000 students and it was named  on the 12th of May 1987. 

6. UNIVERSITY OF BENIN 
University of Benin

  The University of Benin popularly known as UNIBEN is located  at Ugbowo  in Benin City, the school started as an Institute of Technology in 1970 before it was later accorded  the status of a full-fledged university by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on the 1st of July  1971 her name was gotten on the 1st of April 1975 from Late Samuel Ogbemudia and other officials. 

7. UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN
University of Ilorin


  The University of Ilorin is popularly known as UNIILORIN  it was established  in 1975 through the decree passed by the military, the 1st vice chancellor was Professor O. O. Akinkugbe. 

8. UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA 
University of Abuja


  The University of Abuja is located  along Abuja Airport road  at the federal capital territory (FCT)  of Nigeria it is the newest tertiary institution in this list and was established in 1988 but they began academic work in 1990. 

9. UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT 


  The University of port Harcourt popularly known as UNIPORT it was founded  in 1975 and is located at Aluu town in Rivers State Nigeria,  the school has a large amount of students and staffs. 

10. FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY MINNA  


  The Federal University of Technology was established  in 1982 it is located  at Minna, the school has a large number of students, staffs and many faculties ranging from Law, Medicine, social sciences and public administration.
